Sweet Dreams Project: How You Can Help Kids Have Sweet Dreams This Holiday Season

The holiday season is just around the corner, and at United Way of the Bluegrass, that means it’s time for the Sweet Dreams Project! For the ninth year in a row, this heartwarming initiative is providing comfort, joy, and peace of mind to children across the Bluegrass. By giving them essentials like pajamas, books, snacks, and hygiene items, we’re helping kids feel loved and supported during their winter break.

The Sweet Dreams Project was born out of a simple yet powerful observation: many children go home for the holidays without basic comforts like pajamas and books. Worse yet, many worry about food insecurity and other challenges no child should have to face. By working with Family Resource Centers in our communities, UWBG has identified the needs of local students and is determined to make a difference.

Making the Holidays Brighter for Over 2,300 Students

With the help of local sponsors, organizations, and caring community members, the Sweet Dreams Project is on track to serve over 2,300 students from elementary schools across the region. Each child will receive a special gift package containing:

  • A cozy new pair of pajamas

  • A book to spark their imagination

  • Snacks to enjoy over the break

  • A toothbrush and toothpaste for a fresh start

These simple items can bring tremendous joy and relief, allowing children to focus on being kids—reading, playing, and resting without worry.

Ways You Can Support the Sweet Dreams Project

You can help ensure that every child in need has a happier holiday season through several giving options:

  1. Sponsor a Child: For just $20, you can sponsor one child, providing them with a Sweet Dreams gift package. Text SweetDreams to 41444 or visit uwbg.org/sweetdreams to make an online donation.

  2. Sponsor a School: Companies, businesses, or affinity groups can make a larger impact by adopting and fully sponsoring 50 students in a select school community for an investment of $800. To learn more, please email autumn.miller@uwbg.org.

  3. Donate Items: New pajamas, books, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and non-perishable packaged snacks are greatly appreciated. To find a drop-off location, visit uwbg.org/SweetDreams.

Become a Part of Something Special

The Sweet Dreams Project is about more than just giving items—it’s about giving peace of mind and letting kids know that their community cares. By donating, sponsoring, or spreading the word, you can help make this season brighter for children in need.
