At United Way of the Bluegrass, we believe in the power of partnerships to create thriving communities. One of our valued partners, the Emergency Community Food Pantry of Franklin County, plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity by providing groceries to families in need. Our support through donor contributions allows us to strengthen the work of this vital organization and ensure families have access to nutritious meals.
The Food Pantry serves as a centralized hub for collecting, organizing, and distributing groceries to families in Franklin County. Over 30 social service agencies and community churches collaborate with the Food Pantry to help identify families most in need of assistance. Families seeking help visit these partner agencies or churches, where they provide necessary information regarding their grocery needs. This information is then relayed to ROSM (Resource Office of Social Ministry), which maintains a record of all previous food requests. After confirming that the family meets the pantry’s emergency food criteria, ROSM forwards the request to Food Pantry volunteers, who assemble grocery boxes tailored to each family.
Each box contains enough food to provide three meals a day for a full week—21 meals in total. The average value of groceries provided to each family is $100, with the quantity of items varying based on the family size.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, United Way of the Bluegrass was able to help the Food Pantry serve 1,639 families and 1,486 children during August 2024 alone. This partnership reflects the collective efforts of the community to fight hunger and provide stability for families across Franklin County.
We’re proud to be a part of this important work and grateful to our donors, whose contributions enable us to help the Food Pantry make a lasting impact. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier future for our community.
