A 211 Navigator at United Way of the Bluegrass recently returned a call from Natasha, a dedicated Community Health Worker at the University of Kentucky. Natasha was seeking urgent assistance for her client, a young single mother with a newborn baby in desperate need of diapers.
Natasha had already encountered several obstacles in her search for help. She knew that The Nest, a local resource center, was closed on Fridays. She had also left messages for other programs, including the Health Department's HANDS Program and God’s Pantry, but had not received any responses.
In response to Natasha’s call, the 211 Navigator quickly suggested reaching out to Catholic Charities, which operates a diaper program. The Navigator also informed Natasha about the Step-by-Step program, designed to support young single mothers aged 12-24. Although Step-by-Step was closed that day, the Navigator believed it could be a valuable resource for the young mother in the future.
Additionally, the Navigator offered a personal contact at God’s Pantry to expedite a response regarding any available diaper donations. This proactive approach aimed to ensure that Natasha’s client could receive the necessary supplies as soon as possible.
Natasha expressed her gratitude to the Navigator for the prompt return call and the valuable information shared through the 211 service. The assistance provided through this call exemplifies the critical role that 211 Navigators play in connecting community members with essential resources.
211 is an indispensable service that helps individuals and families navigate complex social services and find the support they need.
