United Way is diligent in our work to ensure excellence in how we protect the investments of our donors. We must always be above reproach. Our investors and volunteers trust United Way to be a good steward of their investments.
United Way’s finances and internal controls are audited each year by an independent firm, and this information is made public on our website along with the IRS 990 filing. While many organizations have a finance committee who oversees audit responsibilities, United Way has formed two committees for better oversight. The Finance Committee oversees the organization’s finances, and the Audit Committee reviews all internal controls, policies and procedures.

• Our programs The Better Business Bureau Wise Giving Alliance Standards for Charity Accountability (BBB Standards) were developed to assist donors in making sound giving decisions and to foster public confidence in charitable organizations. The standards seek to encourage fair and honest solicitation practices, to promote ethical conduct by charitable organizations and to advance support of philanthropy.
